Job Description

Benchmark International is looking for a driven M&A Analysts to add to our growing team. As an M&A Analysts, you will be a part of Austin's busy office. The M&A Analysts will Lead sales efforts and manage client portfolio through cultivating relationships with clients and potential buyers.  Conduct extensive marketing efforts, identify key prospects and assist in providing updated reports to our clients. We are seeking an individual with strong communication skills that has experience in sales to join our growing team. Experience working with entrepreneurs is a plus.

Job Responsibilities

Your experience throughout the years will be a great resource for the Benchmark team, however as an M&A Analysts, you will act under the instruction of and be trained by Benchmark International's experienced leadership team, with combined experience of over 40 years in the M&A markets.

Your specific duties as an M&A Analysts will include:

  • Develop and build relationships with Benchmark's clients (business owners pursuing the sale of their business) and pool of potential acquirers for those businesses
  • Manage early stages of each acquirer-seller relationship from introduction to preliminary negotiations including (i) performing research to uncover potential companies and individuals interested in acquiring businesses owned by Benchmark's clients, (ii) reaching out to potential acquirers via phone and email, (iii) managing client's profiles on third party and proprietary online portals and responding to inquiries on such portals, (iv) negotiating nondisclosure agreements (NDAs) with potential acquirers, (v) preparing executed NDAs and acquirer profiles for clients, (vi) obtaining clients' approval of NDA's and potential acquirers' access to client's marketing materials which contain sensitive business data, (vii) fielding approved potential acquirers' additional questions about clients, replying where possible and seeking additional data form clients where required, (vii) arranging meetings and conference calls between clients and acquirers, occasionally moderating such calls, (vii) following up on conference calls and on sites and developing follow on course of action, and (viii) driving approved potential acquirers to submit offers for clients' businesses
  • Assist Deal Preparation Associates in preparation and revision of clients' marketing materials, primarily through requesting additional information from clients and assembling lists of potential acquirers
  • Filing and keeping Benchmark's CRM up to date for all of the above.
  • Research and compile lists of potential acquirers specific to a particular company(ies) and/or industry
  • Conduct market outreach via cold calls, e-mails and mailers to decision makers of potential acquirers
  • Conduct significant negotiations over the phone concerning a limited range of issues
  • Maintain superior client relationships providing continual updates on status of marketing outreach and arranging meetings with potential acquirers and clients
  • Document all communications with client and potential acquirer in CRM system
  • Maintain high degree of knowledge of all companies within the portfolio to ensure ability to fully discuss specific information with potential acquirers
  • Maintain portal databases to reflect relevant, up to date information regarding client to ensure the continual generation of interest
  • Follow all organization's policies, practices, and procedures and report all unsafe activities to supervisor
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals
  • Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

As an M&A Analysts, you must be highly energetic and passionate individual with a positive and highly motivated 'can do' attitude. You must have the strong desire and ambition to succeed in this hugely rewarding industry. It is also vital for your role as an M&A Analysts that you possess excellent verbal and written communication, and interpersonal skills as well as presentation abilities.

The M&A Analysts is a client-facing role that must be able to convey bad news and deal with clients' unique sensitivities while keeping each client moving through the company sales process at a steady pace.

Specific qualifications for the M&A Analysts include:


  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community.  Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conforms to prescribed style and format.  Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to understand financial terminology such as EBITDA, net revenue, gross profit, etc.
  • Ability to understand basic legal terminology such as venue, survival, warranty, etc.
  • Knowledge of general accounting principles with ability to reference in conversation
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail/calendar, recordkeeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheets and graphics
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to handle a rigorous schedule of deadlines
